Adams Family Reunion 2019

On Saturday, the George and Ruby Adams Family Reunion happened at Canyon View Park in Provo.  Everything had to change at the last minute because of algae blooms at Lincoln Beach in the Spanish Fork area.  But the ones in charge quickly got this new place together and everyone was able to chat, eat, and do a few activities together.

We definitely missed the boat and tubing but David, Levi and Zel had an absolute blast with changing it up with mountain bike riding.  Those guys are crazy but they sure like getting dirty and thrown off those bikes!  Just 2 days before the reunion, we had a good friend that got hit by a car while bike riding in Provo so you can bet I was all about reminding them that they better be wearing helmets!

We haven't been able to go to all of the family reunions because of our moves but it is interesting to see how the reunions have changed throughout the years.  It won't be long before we have to start having our own little breakoff reunions because of the original siblings passing away.  Change can be hard but I'm grateful I have these memories of all these reunions throughout the years.

Temple To Temple 5K

David and Levi started off Pioneer Day, July 24, with a 5K run from the old Provo Temple to the new Tabernacle Temple in Provo.  They have been running every other evening of the summer preparing Levi for joining the track team at Mountain View High School next school year.  So when they heard about this Temple To Temple Run, they knew they could handle it.

I can't remember going to a race of this size before, so for me it was neat to experience the sound of all those feet pounding the pavement as they ran by.  Last year they had over 20,000 people join the race so I'm assuming that is close to what I saw yesterday.

The participants were supposed to honor a certain ancestor while they were running.  Levi chose his namesake, Levi Hancock, while David honored Levi Hancock's son, Mosiah.

Later that day, our family and Helen went up the mountains where we went on the 4th of July and watched all the fireworks across the valley.  It was a nice and relaxing Pioneer Day for our family.

Birthday Tubbin'

For Brigham's 15th birthday, he wanted to go to Washington Terrace, get his old friends, and head to the river up there and go tubing.

David was the one to take Brigham up there so I can't say much about these pictures but they sure do make me happy.  I love his friends so much.  They are just good kids and the fact that they still want to be around each other even though they live so far away from each other says a lot.

Brigham.  15.  I could bring up the physical changes in his body or the way he looks at life now at this age.  But the thing is, he's just a good boy.  I mean, that is what really describes him.  He defends those he feels have been handed injustices.  He was like that as a little kid, too.  He's super shy now; something he definitely wasn't as a child.  But he's trying to break out of his shell.  He actually taught in his Priesthood class last Sunday....BRIGHAM DID!!!  He has always said he would flat out say no if someone asked him to teach in class or Sacrament.  So that was a big deal.  And maybe next time he's asked he will say no but at least he is trying.  Sometimes I can see places in my life where I could try more in removing myself from old habits.  But I don't.  My 15 year old is a good example to me.  Maybe I will try harder now, though.

4th of July in Utah Valley

(Reddit Pics)

As many times as we have lived in Utah, I can't believe we never thought of going up into the mountains to watch all the fireworks below...until this year!

Years ago, when we lived in Colorado, I remember coming back from a 4th of July celebration.  It was fun and all but what was memorable was the drive back.  We were driving down some very large hills and saw all these fireworks below.  I don't remember one firework from the place that we actually went to watch them but I have burned in my memory all those fireworks below that huge hill.

So that memory came back to me while we were deciding what we should do this 4th of July.  I really wanted to go up a mountain and see what happens.  I knew it had to be amazing.  I was wrong.

It was magical.

It was the most amazing firework show I have ever seen.  Up until the 4th of July this year, I would have said nothing could out due Idaho Falls, Idaho 4th of July fireworks.  That was an amazing show.  But up until this year, I had never went up into the mountains to watch the dozens and dozens of people randomly lighting off fireworks below.  Or all the city fireworks we saw as well.  It was just magical.
